Parents Community | How Did I Send Four Children to Ivy League?A special guest was invited to the sixth session of Parents’ Community. He is Professor Li Yuandun, father of Academic Principal Aquila Lee. He came to our school to give a speech on “Love Sharing -- How Did I Send Four Children to Ivy League?”, to share with the parents successful experience of education and the way to send children to world-renowned universities. He conveyed personal growth, family emotional experience and life values, and discussed children’s growth education with other parents. Professor Li Yuandun: Graduated from Seoul University, the highest University of South Korea (majored in Chemistry); Ph. D. in Computer Science in University of Illinois; engaged in computer science education in Chungnam National University, South Korea for 27 years. ?Parents Are Best Teachers of Their Children Prof. Lee first started with his family. He said that he always asked his wife to do trifles since they married. But one day when his wife was not at home, he found that actually it was really hard to do these trivial things. He reconsidered and found that love needs to be put into action to make other people feel it. He began to change from family trifles, apologized to his children and wife if he did something wrong, let his children know that everyone might make mistakes, but they must correct it afterwards, be brave to say "sorry" to others. He told that parents should help their children to analyze the mistakes, set the best example to children and let children walk on the "path of light". Principal Aquila Lee’s parents have 4 children. They met more problems than the family with only one child. They always believe that parents are the best teachers of children. For example, parents don’t want children to watch TV, but how can you convince your children while you are watching TV all day long? Be objective about your children’s problems and love them in the right way, they will change eventually. ?How Did I Send Four Children to Ivy League? "Ivy League" first appeared in the middle of the 20th Century. It refers to the top eight elite universities in the United States, including Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania, Yale University, Princeton University, Columbia University, Dartmouth College, Brown University and Cornell University. These 8 schools are the leading universities in the United States, with a long history and rigorous scholarship. Many famous scientists, political figures and business tycoons graduated from these universities. In the United States, “Ivy league” schools are synonymous with top universities. Studying in “Ivy League” schools has also become the dream of many children all over the world. Professor Lee’s four children all studied in “Ivy League” and obtained the master and doctoral degrees after successively graduating from Dartmouth College, University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University. Like their brothers, sisters Gina Lee, Grace Lee and Gloria Lee are also very keen on Chinese education. The 3 sisters who have once worked as teaching staff in Weihai IVY International School are now engaged in academic research in New York and will still serve as special advisors of college counseling for Weihai IVY. As graduates of prestigious universities, they pay close attention to students' study and life at Weihai IVY, hope to transfer their experience and resources to the children, to help students achieve their dreams to study in world-renowned universities. In the future, you will be grateful to your current hard work. Every child's dream deserves support. With the guidance of excellent predecessors, working together with schoolmates and friends, WHIVY moves forward with dreams! ?Education Is Life 1. School Selection Is Not As Simple As You Think Professor Lee: Everyone thinks my education towards children is very successful. My four children enrolled and graduated in “Ivy League” one after another. But at the beginning of school selection, I was very confused. I think English is important for children to be internationalized. The "cramming" and "mechanical memorizing" education in public schools is not effective education in the real sense. Finally I made up my mind to choose an international school for my children. Even if the teaching staff and educational facilities of school were not well provided, only two floors are rented for classrooms and offices with poor hardware. But it is believed that the educational ideas of international school will eventually lead my children to world-famous universities. After they graduated from middle school, I encountered the problem of choosing a foreign high school or domestic public high school for them. As education system and learning contents couldn’t be connected after admission to public school, I decided to send my child to high school in the United States after careful consideration, however, I had to write to the school to apply for a scholarship due to my family’s financial capacity. The school decided to provide scholarship after reviewing my son’s performance and general situation, and also gave scholarships to his sisters while they attend the school. As a parent, I often cultivate my children with gratitude. This gratitude is also passed on to the children. 2. Identifying parents' "role" Professor Lee: As I am studying computer science, I’m very clear about the future of this major. Artificial intelligence and mechanical intelligence and automation must be the trend. The majors that parents and children choose now may not be popular for years or decades. Parents' vision may affect children's judgment. Early education is critical for the physical, mental, and habitual development of children. The education in the first 13 years of children is particularly important. Spend more time with children, guide them, give them some tips in an equal relationship and respect their own thoughts. Parents’ vision determines children’s development. |
