A Special Biology ClassGuard the Blue Sea, Protect the Finless Porpoise, We are in Action!
In recent years, Weihai sea area is often found unexpected death of finless porpoise either caused by marine pollution or mistakenly caught by fishing. In this regard, Weihai IVY International School has been concerning about the subject of marine biological protection for a long time. We popularize the basic knowledge of marine protection to students. In respond to the call of development of marine ecological restoration and the building and sharing of green coastline of Weihai city, through the research on the protection of the finless porpoise, IVY calls on everyone to take care of the marine environment and jointly protect the blue, charming and healthy ocean in Weihai.
Last weekend, there was a most special campus open day in Weihai IVY International School. "Marine Biological Protection: Finless Porpoise AnatomyClass"--the porpoise in this class was stranded in the waters near IVYschool (found dead) . Biology group teachers brought it back to school and decided to open a special biology anatomy class after meeting, so that all the students and parents could experice together. Through this open day activity, we appeal to all citizens to jointly protect the marine environment and care for the marine life.
More about Poroise: The finless porpoise, commonly known as "river pig" or "sea pig",belongs to the national second-class aquatic wildlife protection and enjoys the activities in the offshore waters. Porpoise in China is mainly distributed in bohai sea, yellow sea, east China sea, south China sea and the Yangtze riverwaters. The annual breeding period of porpoise is from March to October each year. During this period, the activity of porpoise is frequent and requires lots of food. In recent two years, with the regulation of sea area in Weihai, the water quality and marine ecological enironment in the vicinity of the urbanarea have been greatly improved. The national second-class quality seawater attracts some porpoise to feed for its abundant baits.
The anatomy lesson was hosted by biology teacher John. He first introduced the basic situation of finless porpoise, and then explained the dissection equitment preparation, sterilization requirements, protective measures and operation specifications, etc.
In this dissection class, students participated in the collection and production offinless porpoise specimen, learned the hands-on experience of recovery stripping, removing tendons, stents filling, suturing a series of specimen preparation procedures. These not only improved the students' ability topractice, enhanced the interactive participation, but also provided the permanent support for the conservation of porpoise in Weihai.
Through this anatomy experiment class, students learned about the serious harm to the marine organism caused by marine pollution. The human activities frequently interfered with the living enironment of the propoise, which resulted in the accidental deaths of many porpoise. The issue of marine ecological environment in Weihai requires a wide range of attention from all sectors of society. The conservation work of porpoise also requires efforts of every one of us to putour efforts into practice.
Marine biological protection has been a long-term concern of our school. The students spontaneously formed an Eco-Rep Club, and under the guidence of biological group teachers, they successively studied and practiced the topics like marine waste reclying, deciduous fermentation, and biotechnology innovation, etc.Marine conservation will never be ended by any event. "Marine Environmental Protection--Porpoise Protection Plan" will keep serving as the characteristic topic of Weihai IVY International School in the future. |
