IVY Science Experiment Exhibition | Don't Say Science Is Boring. You will never know how interesting science is, if you don't try by yourself. Last Saturday, IVY’s friends showed their talent at the exhibition of science experiment.Combining with what they learned in physical, chemical and other science classes, they showed some scientific knowledge through a lot of vivid experiments. Let’s have a look at some wonderful moments on that day! On June 22nd, more than 10 students and parents from Weihai Shiyan High School and Huancui International High School came to our school and attended this interesting science experiment exhibition. Those little curious cuties were addicted to IVY students’ experiments without moving their eyes, and asked questions from time to time. Biological Team Under the leadership from John, our Academic Principal and biology teacher, the biological experiment became interesting and follow the theme of marine conservation. Jackson, our school student, brought a biological experiment, ‘fission’. How did those white bubbles come out? There are some bottles with hydrogen peroxide and zinc chloride inside sitting in front of Jackson, and also some detergent that we can see at home. Under the catalysis of zinc chloride, hydrogen peroxide reacted with detergent, and then there were a lot of toothpaste bubbles coming out. Sunny, Eric and Tony dissected a small starfish on the spot. Located in Weihai with sea around, can always see the starfishes when we gather sea foods. However, we know a little bit about them. At the exhibition, Sunny explained the physiological structure of starfish for students and dissected them, which make everyone know more about Structure of starfish Start dissecting starfish In another classroom, a specimen of dolphin placed on a table attracted everyone’s attention. The specimen was made by our principle, John, and our students. One week before the exhibition, students successfully rearticulated dolphin skeleton of John’s guidance. Last December, our teachers found a dead dolphin by eating marine garages by mistake. To appeal to all students to protect the marine environment, John led the students to dissect the dolphin. The uninterrupted action of marine conservation attracted the attention of the Blue Ribbon Marine Conservation Association. At the beginning of this year, IVY became a member of the Blue Ribbon. Four students also introduced whales, which gave details about whale’s historical evolution, physiological structure, living habits and other aspects, to give everyone an in-depth understanding of whales. Physical Team The book God Throws a Sieve says that the whole meaning of physics lies not in its ability to reveal what nature "is", but in its ability to clarify what we can "say" about nature. There are many IVY students like physics. It is because that even though it seems like a difficult subject, physic becomes interesting in Jun’s class. In the Science Experiments Exhibition, the physical team brought three interesting experiments: car speakers, van der Graf generators, and popcorn maker made by recycled cans. Jack's van der Graaf generator experiment based on the physical theory of current The car speaker experiment was somewhat magical. As Mr. Jun turned on the power, a piece of music began to play. The principle of experiment is that two magnets interact to produce sound Anita's homemade popcorn maker is also very interesting. The experiment uses the theory of heat transfer. After Learning this experiment, you can make your own popcorn at home. Chemical Team Someone says that the ‘element composition’ of chemists should be C3H3, namely Clear Head + Clever Hands + Clean Habits. Chemistry experiment is an important part of chemistry, and it is also a very interesting. At the science experiment exhibition, IVY students exhibited four interesting chemical experiments: ‘a(chǎn)quatic garden’, ‘iodine clock reaction’, ‘discolored flowers’ and ‘golden rain’. The aquatic garden is an imaginative chemistry experiment. When a beautiful world of flowers and plants appeared in a small bottle, audience felt amazed. The principle of this experiment is that metal salts react with sodium silicate to form different colors of metal silicate colloids, and silicates form buds or dendrites, thus producing the phenomenon of water garden. In another classroom, Paul, our chemistry teacher, held a bottle of ‘magic potion’ in his hand and performed a ‘magic’ to the children. ‘This bottle of magic potion can not only discolor flowers, but also whiten your skin!’, said Paul. All students were amused by the lovely chemistry teacher. What is the principle of ‘discolored flowers’? There was a painted picture on the white paper that students were holding on. Zinc and iodine were heated by exothermic reaction of solid iodine, which turned blue after reacting with starch. Paul's "magic potion" made the flowers appear on paper and then disappear. Golden Rain Experiment from Sherlock The morning science experiment exhibition delighted the children who came to participate in the activity. ‘IVY's scientific experiments are really fun’, some children could not help exclaiming. Those IVY scientists who carried out the demonstration also gained a group of small fans. ‘This brother is so handsome in doing the experiment!’ ‘This sister speaks English fluently!" From time to time, our students interacted with children who are watching scientific experiments and asked them if there is anything they don't understand. The science experiment exhibition is a traditional academic activity in IVY. Every year, those rich and interesting experiments are displayed by our students, which is deeply loved by students. Through such activities, students fall in love with science and experience endless enjoyment in the scientific world. At the same time, they can enhance their practical ability, exploratory ability and display ability. |
