New semester： Continue Running on the Road of Pursuing Dreams!

For an instant, it has been a week since the beginning of school. IVY students  have devoted themselves to the new semester, and prepare to accept new knowledge and exercise energetically. Last Wednesday, on the first day of IVY , the school held the opening ceremony. All the students, parents and teachers came together to embrace the new semester and talk about new growth and harvest.

"Learn in a scientific way"

At the opening ceremony, IVY Academic Principal John would like to talk to the students again. First of all, he welcomed the students back to the Ivy family. He hoped that everyone could save energy during the holidays and prepare for the new semester. This time, President John mainly talked with students about "learning" and how to learn scientifically. After returning to school, the main thing students is learning, but they should know how to acquire knowledge skillfully and improve their grades more intelligently. In response, Principal John shared eight scientific methods of rapid learning:

1. Learn to use different learning methods to learn the same knowledge.

Learning can be done by reading classroom notes, watching learning videos, searching online learning resources, and creating mind maps,which can stimulate different parts of the brain in different ways, activate more brain regions, and ultimately students could learn more efficiently.

2. Learn more than one subject a day, not just one or two.

Learning multiple subjects a day is more effective than studying one or two subjects, because if you study many of the same subjects in a day, you are likely to confuse similar information. Allocate your study time for each course, and your brain will have more time to consolidate learning.

3. Review knowledge regularly, not by rote

Regular review is essential to transform knowledge from short-term memory to long-term memory. Only in this way can the knowledge be acquired and consolidated in time and truly mastered.

4. Be single-minded, not multi-minded.

Students who are highly efficient in their studies focus on only one thing at a time. So, don't reply to text messages, watch TV or check microblogs intermittently while you are learning. Concentration is more conducive to improving your attention.

5. Learn to simplify, summarize and compress knowledge

The use of mnemonic tools such as acronyms has proved to improve learning efficiency. You can also summarize the information into chart or mind map. These tools will help you learn knowledge faster.

6. Take notes with a pen instead of a laptop.

According to the research, it is easier to be distracted and less effective to take notes with computers, while taking notes makes students more inclined to process and reorganize information. Students are more likely to get good grades.

7. Face up to and write down your anxiety

Can I do well in this exam? What if I forget the key concepts and equations? Write down these worries before you take the exam to prevent them from getting out of control and affecting your grades.

8. Reward yourself at the end of each study

Give yourself a small reward at the end of each class, and you'll be smarter and learn faster.

For these eight suggestions , students can do only one of them at a time, slowly and gradually develop scientific learning habits. But be careful  to avoid  that the goal of getting A becomes an unhealthy obsession. After all, education is not only for good results, but for excellence.

"We will do better in the new semester."

At the opening ceremony, Sebasian made a speech as a student representative. Sebasian transferred to Ivy  International School last semester. He was an excellent student in No. 1 Middle School of Weihai, a famous middle school. When he made  his academic plan for studying abroad, he chose Ivy to realize his dream of studying. Sebasian hoped that in the new semester, he and his classmates would cherish every day of IVY study, gain more knowledge and progress, and do their best for their goals.

All members of IVY Student Council appeared on the stage and summarized the campus activities held by the Student Council last semester. Last semester, IVY gave birth to a new generation of members in Student Council. They are John Choi, president of the student council, Sunny, Secretary Lucy, accountant Paul, publicity minister Sherlock and organization minister Lucas. They held a series of campus activities, such as paying tribute to United Nations Day, Games, Halloween Ball and Christmas party. Through these activities, students'spare time was enriched. And the activities also exercised the students'comprehensive ability. This semester, they will continue to work hard to organize more interesting activities for all the students

A group of cute and young students also shared their experience of supporting education in Hainan during the winter vacation. It's good to go out and do something meaningful during the long winter vacation. IVY students Angel and Betty went to a rural school in Hainan during the winter vacation to teach. They experienced the feeling of being a teacher and learned and knew  more about the education and life of children in remote areas. A week's support taught them a lesson. They understood the hard work of the teachers and learned that they should take the initiative to learn. At the same time, they also made some contributions to the society in this activity.

As the opening ceremony drew to a close, President Michelle led all teachers and students to revisit the philosophy of IVY once again. IVY stands for Intelligence (wisdom), Virtue (virtue) and Youth (youth). The short three words contain IVY's most profound expectations for students:

IVY students will become wise people. "Knowing people is wise, knowing oneself is wise." The winner is strong. "Strengthen yourself with wisdom.

IVY students are kind-hearted . "do not be small for good, do not be small for evil".They will own both morality ,integrity and good conduct.

IVY students'youth is a struggle, "Young people are strong, young people are independent, young people are free, young people are progressive."

New semester is a new starting point. we hope IVY students to better practice the spirit of IVY,be all-round development, strive to progress, and grow into being better and better!
