Meet a Better Self in New Semester

In the golden and pleasant September, Weihai IVY ushered in the opening ceremony of 2018.We are gathered here to welcome new students. All teachers and students come back to the campus to start a new semester with hope.

Every year at the opening ceremony, the principal would deliver encouragement and hope to all IVY students. This year, Academic Principal John emphasized the importance of self-control and willpower. He said in the speech: good self-control can help people overcome impulsiveness and laziness, focus on their own learning goals, and better achieve academic ideals. In order to put self-control into practice, we need to have enough willpower. Communicate more with teachers, set learning standards, monitor the progress of learning, and creative our own future in accordance with goals.

This year's new student representative Mike was admitted to a key high school with excellent grades, but in order to go abroad for further study, he chose IVY. In his speech, Mike first thanked his parents for their efforts and support, and said he would continue to study hard for the next three years.

“Many students might think it would be easy to get good grades in international school. But in fact, this is not the case. Some people think international schools will  not just  focus on learning,but put more emphasis on practical activities. This has    become one of the reasons for some students to spend time in vain. I want to tell you the fact that international schools do focus on more practical       activities than domestic public schools, but  whether the learning tasks are onerous or not depends entirely on the self-orientation. If you regard yourself as a mediocre, you can just hang out and make no effort. On the  contrary, if you are unwilling to be    mediocre, positioning yourself as a well-rounded student, then I have to say, the three -year life in IVY will not be easy, or even more challenging than domestic public school. I truly appreciate the words of Tagore：The day is near when the burden will become thy gift, and thy sufferings will light up thy path”, he said in his speech.

The old students representative Amy said in her speech: “We are actually very lucky to be in this school, because here we have the chance to practice how to manage our time and how to study on our own. And these are very important skills even after graduation. Moreover，our passion of study is retained here,  we could finally start to enjoy it instead of standing it. No one will force you, because it is your own business. Sometimes you may feel that you lose yourself , lose your purpose , lose your meaning , and everything in your life goes wrong. Remember ,‘Winners are not people who never fail , but people who never quit’, and ‘Failure is not the opposite of success , it is a part of success’ . A goal without a plan is just a wish, and great things never came from comfort zones , so push yourself because no one else is going to do it for you. Don’t talk, act. Don’t promise, prove”.

As a rule, we still provide scholarships for new students with excellent grades to encourage them to make further efforts. Students who did not receive scholarships are also full of vision for future learning and life. New semester, new hope. IVY freshmen are full of expectations for the new education environment. The seeds of their dreams have been dropped to the fertile fields of IVY, and they are sure to reap a bright tomorrow.
