Latest News Harry Fang: Follow me, and I will take you into the world of Simon FraserHarry Fang Weihai IVY Graduate in 2015 University of Simon Fraser Follow me, and I will take you into the world of Simon Fraser Learning consciously Learning consciously If you have some idea of Simon Fraser University, you should know that it's extremely strict in academic. My alumni once joked that the learning experience here was just like the final college entrance examination. “Canada ranked the first" has unearned reputation. I feel most that there is no longer someone to urge you and more depending on their personal consciousness in University of Simon Fraser. To be honest, the examination is really difficult. You need make more effort and keep accumulating. No one will drive you in this free learning environment. In the western educational view, learning is your own thing and others have no right to interfere in. Everyone needs sharing and cooperation. The courses in University are relatively tight, but it does not mean a lot. In fact, only about half the time you will spend in class for a week, and the rest of the time will be allocated by yourself. In class, you have to follow the teacher’s steps and will not get lost in the sea of knowledge. Once you have missed a point which means to spend more time than others after class to study and think. This is my roommate, unfortunately, every night you can always see him holding the textbook and weeping. Sometimes teachers will give some team assignment, and you need to exchange opinions with other team members, communication and coordination to finish the job. Finally submit the report. In this process if you are careful enough, you will find yourself in what ways have been improved, and where there is a shortage. Fortunately, I chose international school which let me in advance adapt to the foreign teaching mode and English teaching environment. In Weihai Ivy school for two years, my English improved by leaps and bounds, compared with other Chinese students or some foreign students whose mother tongue is not English. Therefore, I have more time to experience the life abroad. (Ah, the world is so beautiful!) Course selection is based on the interests and needs Compared with the high school curriculum, I think the university gives students more options. In Simon Fraser, you can select course, interesting, easy and which would be useful for the future as your wish. For instance, my major is computer science, and mathematics and programming are my major courses. With good foundation, learning foreign mathematics curriculum is not hard, just like review. It is interesting to note that as a quasi "ape" program, writing is also the required courses. In the classroom read novels, talk about experience, write about feelings, immersed in the bizarre story, listen to the teacher carefully behind the tasting the joys and sorrows. Besides the course related , I also chose a lot of interesting courses such as philosophy, accounting, macroscopic and linear algebra. Philosophy can let me settle, and know the world in other level. Accounting can let me to know more about the current society, to understand the operation mode of the business for setting up their own company in the future (yes, I am an ambitious person);Linear algebra, it is complied with their own professional and preferences, so that can have greater accomplishments in programming. So, for the students go to foreign university in the future, my advice is based on the interest to choose major, based on the interest and need to select courses. Feel the foreign customs Simon Fraser's campus is located in the towering trees. Beside the beautiful environment, it has the BC province's largest library, and I like reading "meditation" inside; Campus restaurant, coffee shop, gym, football field, gym, life here will be very comfortable. Study abroad also provides me with superior language environment---shopping, travelling, go shopping and so on. All need to communicate in English and at the same time you also can learn more authentic English expression. I'm impressed with one more thing, is almost everyone has "thank you" "sorry" to hang in the mouth. Of course, I made a lot of friends from the other places of the world. Fun is at ordinary times to listen to dubai's classmates talking about whether they are really rich, to go gym with black African friends, to talk about tough life with blondes. It is to be with you and get along very well. |
